No Substitute for Obedience

Devotional:

Peter's desire to build tabernacles, though seemingly spiritual, wasn't what God requested. How often do we build "tabernacles" - good works, ministries, or activities - that God never asked for? There's no substitute for simple obedience. We can be busy doing good things while missing the one thing God actually requested. Sometimes our emotional responses in high moments can lead us to create things that look spiritual but aren't divinely ordained. God desires our surrendered hearts more than our self-made plans. Obedience requires trusting Him even when we don’t fully understand His will. It’s not about how much we do, but how closely we follow His lead.

  • What "tabernacles" are you building that God didn't request?

  • Are there areas where you're substituting activity for obedience?

  • How can you better align your actions with God's specific instructions?

Scripture:

“To obey is better than sacrifice…” – 1 Samuel 15:22 [NIV]

Prayer:

Father, forgive me for the times I’ve prioritized my plans over Your commands. Teach me to obey You wholeheartedly, trusting that Your ways are perfect. Amen.

Call to Action:

Examine an area of your life where you’ve been reluctant to obey. Commit to taking one concrete step toward surrender this week.
